Republican congressional candidate Holly Adams has released a detailed energy plan aimed at lowering gasoline prices and restoring American energy independence, citing recent Middle East instability as evidence of the need for domestic production. Adams stated that recent Iranian attacks on oil refineries and threats to close the Strait of Hormuz during Operation Epic Fury highlight vulnerabilities in relying on foreign energy sources. "When hostile regimes can threaten the world's energy supply overnight, it proves exactly why America must produce its own energy," Adams said. "Energy independence isn't just an economic issue—it's a national security issue."
The plan targets what Adams describes as policies by Washington politicians, including her opponent Greg Landsman, that have declared war on American energy. Adams claims families in Southwest Ohio are paying excessive prices at the pump as a result. Her proposal includes eliminating the federal gas tax to provide immediate relief, opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and other federal lands to responsible energy production, and restarting major pipeline projects like the Keystone pipeline cancelled by President Joe Biden. Additional measures involve ending restrictions on oil and gas leasing on federal lands and offshore areas, streamlining permits for refineries and energy infrastructure, and supporting an all-of-the-above energy strategy prioritizing affordability, reliability, and national security.
Adams criticized the Biden administration for decisions she says have driven up energy costs, such as the January 2021 suspension of new oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters and the 2023 cancellation of remaining oil and gas leases in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She accused Landsman of supporting these policies and backing the Green New Deal agenda, which she argues would cripple American energy production. "These policies don't just hurt our economy—they make America more dependent on foreign energy," Adams stated. She emphasized that energy independence strengthens national security and economic prosperity, with lower gas prices reducing costs for groceries, transportation, and everyday goods.
If elected, Adams pledged to work with congressional leaders and President Donald Trump to restore American energy dominance and provide lasting consumer relief. "Ohio families deserve affordable energy and a government that works for them," she said. The plan frames energy production as a critical tool for weakening rogue regimes like Iran and ensuring domestic stability. Adams is running for Ohio's First Congressional District, positioning her energy agenda as a central issue in the campaign.
